The neurosequential model of the brain, designed by Bruce Perry can sound intimidating. Don't be. It translates to brain sequence and helps us understand how the brain develops and the impacts trauma and love can have on every stage of development from infants to mature adults. The model helps to explain our responses to stress and how we can identify warning signs when we or children become triggered.
When we think of the brain a fist is a great example of a brain at rest. When we get stressed our resilience will help us be able to keep calm and respond, but when we get overwhelmed we shift to a heightened state dependency and lose access to the thinking part of our brains. And we can flip our lids into the flight, fight, freeze response. This model helps explain how this happens, how to respond when we are triggered and how to build resilience.
If you want to learn more about this model please feel free to reach out to a member of our team and we will provide additional information.
